Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs is the most creative non-fiction book I’ve ever read.

This book takes the idea of “spirit animals” to the next level. @alexispauline has shown me that intersectional politics also includes allying with other species.

It feels obvious now, after reading this book, that the same systemic oppression that endangers Black womxn also endangers marine mammals. Which means that the same practices shared in the book will protect Black womxn and marine mammals and all life.
