Sassafras, Cypress, and Indigo by Ntozake Shange

The year’s not over yet but I already know these are my favorites: Sassafras, Cypress and Indigo, Sula, Sister Outsider, and The Salt Eaters.

Shange is another transformational writer for me. She completely changed what writing meant and represented by undoing the rules of English language and creating a new space of her own.

She completely changed what I though writing could look like and what I thought was “allowed\” to do as a writer.
